Choose an AI music tool by the output you need: a song concept, an editable composition or audio that fits a particular production. A convincing demo does not establish the rights or control needed for release.
Two different starting points
| Workflow | Official product route | Selection question |
|---|---|---|
| Prompt-led song creation | Suno | Can you develop the idea and revise the parts that matter? |
| Composition with editable musical material | AIVA | Does the output and editing workflow fit your music production tools? |
| A fixed soundtrack requirement | Compare a generated candidate with an authorized existing track | Can it meet duration, transitions and usage terms with less finishing work? |
Define the musical job first
A singer exploring a chorus needs different controls from an editor placing music under dialogue. Write down duration, mood, instrumentation, vocal needs and where the major transitions occur. For background music, leave room for speech; for a song, inspect lyric clarity and structural development. Avoid comparing candidates solely through their most polished public demos.
A brief you can actually evaluate
Use an original, non-infringing brief for a short instrumental cue: a quiet opening, a lift at the midpoint and a clean ending. Describe the musical qualities in ordinary terms rather than requesting an imitation of a specific performer. Add the cue to a sample video with narration. Listen through the entire export and mark sections that compete with speech, clip abruptly or repeat awkwardly.
Keep a production record
- Save the brief, source material you are authorized to use and the account route.
- Check the beginning, transitions and ending as well as the most appealing section.
- Test one revision, such as a shorter ending or reduced instrumentation.
- Open the required audio or project format in your production software.
- Record generation attempts, editing time and whether the result is usable in context.
Plans and usage rights are separate checks
Inspect the provider’s current plan and terms for the intended publication. Download access, commercial permission, attribution requirements and rights associated with uploaded material are separate questions. Do not infer permission from the words “AI generated” or from a free account. This guide does not offer a legal conclusion about ownership or a guarantee against similar outputs. Keep the applicable terms and creation date with the project.
What a low headline price can miss
Include failed attempts, additional exports, editing time and any separate production subscription. If you need stems, MIDI or another specific handoff, verify the selected plan supports it before building the whole project around that format. Repeatedly generating complete tracks to fix a small ending may cost more time than editing a suitable draft.
When a conventional workflow is preferable
Use an existing authorized recording when a precise duration and predictable licensing workflow are more important than novelty. Work with a musician when a distinctive performance and detailed collaboration are central to the brief. Generation is most useful when it helps you explore or develop a concrete idea and the output survives production review. For visuals paired with audio, compare the video workflow separately; a music file and a video export have different acceptance checks.
