Ecommerce Data API: Amazon Research Data, MCP Access and Query Costs
What it does
Ecommerce Data API supplies structured product, keyword, market and related research data. Public documentation describes REST access and a remote MCP connection; a separate agent setup path uses a local CLI. It is a data service for a research workflow, not a standalone assistant that independently validates a business opportunity.
Costs and access
The entry subscription is listed at US$9 per month for 900 calls. New verified accounts receive five trial calls valid for three days. Monthly allowances expire; separately purchased call packs have their own validity. A single agent conversation can trigger multiple billable requests, so a chat count is not a cost estimate.
How to evaluate the data
Start with a small set of known ASINs across the marketplace you actually sell in. Record the request time, marketplace and returned identifiers. Check variation handling, missing fields and freshness before combining responses. Treat sales estimates as estimates and avoid interpreting missing data as zero demand.
Operational limits
The MCP documentation says keys share account balance rather than receiving independent key-level budgets. Put spending limits in the calling workflow and review tool access before connecting an autonomous agent. An integration that returns valid JSON can still produce an unreliable recommendation if it merges different countries or time windows.
What should a pilot deliver?
Build a small results table containing each identifier, its marketplace, request timestamp, missing-field notes and call count. Preserve the original response alongside any AI summary so another analyst can trace a claim back to a field. Decide in advance what freshness and coverage are acceptable. Stop or flag the workflow when required fields are absent instead of asking a model to fill gaps from memory.
Which workflows should you compare?
Compare Apify for a configured collection workflow. Evaluate coverage and permitted data use separately; that comparison does not establish that sources have identical data quality.
