Runway: Workflow, Credits and Output Review
Generates and edits visual media using a choice of models, with model-dependent credit consumption and output controls.
Who should consider Runway
Creative teams testing shots, motion concepts and visual treatments. Evaluate a tightly specified shot before budgeting a complete sequence.
Features and pricing
Runway's pricing page lists image/video generation, model access and paid export features. The former runwayml.com pricing URL redirects to runway.com; this is one product, not a second listing.
Free provides 125 one-time credits. Standard lists 625 monthly credits and $12 per month billed annually. The table gives different credit-to-duration conversions by model. A one-time free pool does not renew monthly; API access and team purchasing should be priced separately for the intended workflow.

A practical evaluation task
Create a five-second product shot from an image you own: a slow camera move around a stationary object with a readable label. Specify what must remain unchanged.
Keep the source image, prompt, model selection and generation settings. Change one variable at a time. Export a candidate and inspect individual frames around the object edge, label and any interaction.
What a useful result must pass
Reject takes with label mutation, changing geometry or motion inconsistent with the brief. Count accepted seconds and total credits across all attempts. This reveals whether the workflow is affordable for your project without claiming a universal quality score.
Limits and data access
Generated shots can introduce details absent from the reference. Rights to the source and intended use need review, and uploaded client assets require permission. Upscaling changes resolution; it does not automatically repair factual or temporal errors.
Alternatives and tradeoffs
Compare HeyGen or Synthesia when a presenter must deliver an approved script. Use Descript when the main task is cutting existing spoken footage. These solve different production problems, so compare the final deliverable rather than model names.
